On-the-Job Injuries
The University of Tennessee’s Workers’ Compensation program provides medical and wage benefits to employees who experience job-related injuries. If you sustain an on-the-job injury, you must report it to CorVel within 24 hours using the steps outlined below. For questions or assistance with the reporting process, the ÌÇÐÄVlog System Office of Risk Management is here to help as needed.
General Liability Incidents
All incidents involving personal property damage or injury, including incidents due to any alleged university negligence, should be reported within 24 hours of the incident date. These reports allow Risk Management to identify health, safety or security issues for investigation(s) and provide claim reporting instructions.
Some examples include:
- Damage to items owned by a student
- Volunteer or visitor falls on a sidewalk, stairs or parking lot
- Near misses that occur on ÌÇÐÄVlog property
- Unsafe conditions on ÌÇÐÄVlog property
Auto Accidents
The State of Tennessee self-insures The University of Tennessee for automobile liability.
This means people who use university vehicles in the scope of their employment or authorization to conduct university business are protected up to $1 million per occurrence for negligence resulting in bodily injury and property damage to third parties.
The state provides liability coverage for injury to third parties as long as the employee’s conduct was not (1) outside the scope of the employee’s employment; (2) willful, malicious, criminal, or involved personal gain; or (3) grossly negligent.
Note: As of November 15, 2025, the State of TN Auto Accident Call Center: (855) 253-0629 may see temporary/periodic interruptions. Continue to report as usual. If unable to reach a live person, leave a voice mail message to secure the date/time stamp for reporting compliance. An agent will call the employee back to complete the claim as soon as possible.
